The STIHL MS 500i is a professional forestry saw with a difference: its 79.2cc 2-MIX engine uses electronic fuel injection, called STIHL Injection, instead of a carburettor. It makes 5kW from a 6.5kg powerhead, and STIHL quotes chain acceleration from 0 to 100km/h in 0.25 seconds. It suits felling, cutting to length and pruning, and handles thick, hard timber.
Sensors read air pressure plus internal and external temperature, and the control unit sets the fuel quantity and ignition timing, so the saw starts well whatever the altitude or temperature.
