Description

The STIHL MS 162 is an entry-level petrol chainsaw for private grounds maintenance. STIHL pitches it at occasional use such as cutting firewood and pruning fruit trees, and it can fell smaller trees. A 30.1cc STIHL 2-MIX engine makes 1.2kW, and the powerhead weighs 4.5kg without fuel, bar and chain.

Operation is kept simple: one lever controls start, running and stop, the combi lever springs back to the run position after a break, and the chain is tensioned from the side. The Ematic system feeds oil to the chain and bar rails. This listing is the version with a 30cm (12in) bar and narrow-kerf 3/8in P chain.

Frequently asked questions

+Who is the STIHL MS 162 for?

STIHL calls it a reliable entry-level saw for private grounds maintenance. It is a lightweight, robust machine for occasional use, such as cutting firewood, pruning fruit trees and felling smaller trees.

+What bar and chain does this version have?

A 30cm (12in) bar with a 3/8in P pitch chain and a 1.1mm groove width. The narrow kerf helps with precise cuts. Ask us what else is included in the box.

+How easy is it to operate?

A single lever controls all functions, including start, running and stop, with one hand. The combi lever with stop function springs back to the operating position, so the saw restarts easily after a break.

+What does the Ematic system do?

Ematic lubrication delivers oil to the chain links and guide bar rails. Used with STIHL Oilomatic chain, it gives good lubrication and can reduce bar oil consumption by up to 50%.

+How much vibration and noise does it make?

The STIHL anti-vibration system reduces the vibration that reaches the handles. STIHL lists 3.2m/s² on the left handle and 3m/s² on the right, with a sound pressure level of 100dB(A) and a sound power level of 111dB(A). Always wear hearing protection.

+Is protective gear available?

STIHL offers an optional FUNCTION Kit MS of basic personal protective equipment for use with this saw, suited to different body sizes. Call us to ask about protective gear.

+Can I get servicing and spare parts from Acacia Mower Centre?
